Seven Works Up for Public Vote in U.K.’s Threadneedle Prize

　　LONDON—The seven works shortlisted to win this year’s £25,000 ($41,000) Threadneedle Prize — the most valuable art prize awarded by the public in the U.K — have been announced, with the winner to be decided by public vote. At the same time, all 87 works selected for this year’s exhibition are now on view at London's Mall Galleries.

　　Launched last year, the Threadneedle is seen as both an alternative to the Tate museum’s 25-year-old Turner Prize, with its focus on conceptual and nontraditional media, and a reassertion of popular interest in figurative painting and sculpture. The artist who receives the largest share of public votes cast online and throughout the exhibition will win the Threadneedle Prize, to be announced Sept. 14. The Mall Galleries exhibition, which combines the work of young and established names, has been called a “serious, engaging, diverse” triumph by the Financial Times.
