Nemesis of Prince of Wales Wins Stirling Prize

　　LONDON—In a ceremony held on October 17, architect Richard Rogers, 76, received one of the UK’s highest architectural distinctions, the RIBA Stirling Prize. Rogers was honored for his design of Maggie’s Centre, a cancer center in London designed around a central kitchen with a distinctive orange façade. This is the second time that the architect has won the prize, the first being in 2006 when his firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners was honored for their design of the Barajas Airport in Madrid.

　　Rogers, who designed the Pompidou in Paris with Renzo Piano and the Lloyds building in London, may be equally well known for his feud with Prince Charles. Coming to a head earlier this year, the prince who favors more conservative designs, helped put a stop to one of Roger's very modern plans for an apartment complex in London’s Chelsea district.
